CONGRATULATIONS to the new West Yorkshire Sportshall Athletics Champions Holy Rosary & St Annes.

Yet again the Leeds North East area goes from strength to strength and we should all be proud of this fantastic achievement for one of our schools competing against the best teams in the region.

"The quality of the performances really stood out over this competition and shows that you have all worked hard to achieve this amazing success, well done to everyone" Chrisi - School Games Organiser

Also a big well done to St Theresa's who finished 2nd as this really is a fantastic achievement.

Primary - Brownlee Triathlon Events for May 2017

Thursday 25th May, John Smeaton Academy, Leeds

Friday 26th May, JCCS, Leeds

As an Active School, we would like to invite your school to be part of these events to be held on the dates above. The events will involve KS2 children having an opportunity to try the disciplines of the triathlon. All children will swim 30m, cycle 1km and run 400m (all distances are approx.). Bikes and helmets will be provided.

Each school is invited to bring a maximum of 30 KS2 children, although schools can bring less; please note that it is not essential for children taking part in the Triathlon to be able to swim 25m as the pool floor will be raised so that most children will be able to stand up in the water, however we would suggest that the children will need to be confident in water.

At this stage, we would like to know if your school would like to participate in the event. Please confirm by Mon 27th March by completing the form which has been emailed out and return it tojill.wilkinson@leeds.gov.uk

Following the deadline date of Mon 27th March, Active Schools will email your school to confirm your date and time slot with full details for the day.

If there are more schools than places available, schools will be chosen through a draw. The draw will take place, if necessary, on Tues 28 March.

New funding to boost schools facilities and healthy lifestyles

FYI - positive news for investment in our schools going forward;

Schools are to receive £415 million to help pupils benefit from healthier, more active lifestyles, Education Secretary Justine Greening announced today (28 February 2017).

Primary, secondary and sixth-form colleges will be able to use the funding to pay for facilities to support physical education (PE), after-school activities and healthy eating.

Schools will also be able to use the new healthy pupils capital programme to improve facilities for children with physical conditions or support young people struggling with mental health issues.

Alongside the funding for the PE and sport premium, breakfast clubs and universal infant free school meals, it represents over £1.3 billion investment in the 2018 to 2019 academic year to help young people live healthier lifestyles. This builds on wider government work such as the recent sports strategy.
