We're delighted to welcome Dance and the Exercise, Movement and Dance Partnership (EMDP) to the School Games family.
Speaking about the announcement, EMDP have said:
"We are very excited to be part of the School Games from the new 2016/2017 academic year. Dance appeals to young people of all ages, genders and backgrounds. This new School Games framework extends that opportunity further for young people to not only compete, but also lead and play an integral part in the activity and competitions."
"To support the inclusion of dance in the school games, and to help schools get easier access to participation, training and competition opportunities, EMDP have created a new online hub - which can be accessed here. The hub will be continually updated with new and exciting opportunities so be sure to check back regularly.
"EMDP can quality assure teachers and instructors used for the delivery of activities in schools. This quality assurance gives schools a simple method for ensuring that individuals are appropriately trained, checked and insured.
"To further celebrate the launch of dance into the school games EMDP have teamed up with imovesdance.com to offer the opportunity for PE leads to attend a FREE PE lead training dance roadshow. The introductory session will help to build confidence in teaching dance and supporting your colleagues to teach it too.
"At EMDP we are working, with numerous fitness and dance partners, to give access to a wider variety of opportunities that are accessible to schools, and children and young people can relate to. Supporting schools to increase participation in dance fitness and group exercise is integral to our vision; a healthier nation through exercise."
We will be making more announcements regarding new sports formats over the coming days.
